This half term, visiting Truro offers a delightful mix of culture, history, and scenic charm for the entire family.

Begin your exploration at Truro Cathedral, a magnificent structure with stunning Gothic Revival architecture that towers above the city. Step inside to admire its intricate stained-glass windows, lofty ceilings, and peaceful ambiance, offering a glimpse into Cornwall’s rich spiritual heritage. Afterwards, head to the Royal Cornwall Museum, where you can uncover the county’s fascinating history, from ancient archaeological finds to displays on Cornwall’s mining heritage and local art. The museum’s family-friendly exhibits and interactive features make it an engaging stop for both adults and children.

As you stroll through the quaint streets of Truro, enjoy its independent shops, cosy cafes, twice weekly farmers market and two indoor markets make this Cornish city truly enchanting during the autumn break.

Royal Cornwall MuseumDive headlong into the worlds of adventurous aviators, mischievous witches, and high drama at sea with a captivating combination of interactive family workshops, exhibitions, and performances taking place at Royal Cornwall Museum throughout half term

  • From Monday 28th October, free activities will run from 10am – 4pm everyday as TECgirls take charge of museum airspace with their Reach for the Sky Paper Plane Challenge. Children can come and learn how to make three different paper planes inspired by pioneering women in British aviation history, before embarking a series of challenges in the flight zone exploring how design impacts flight. The activities are open to all children, with no booking required.
  •  Friday 1st November the museum plays host to Coppice Theatre’s award-winning production How to Catch a Book Witch – a huge hit with audiences at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer. It follows the story of Kira – whose beloved library is threatened with closure – and her new friend Book Worm. There will be two performances, one at 10.30am and one at 2.30pm, with tickets available via Eventbrite.
  • Also running throughout October half term are free family activities alongside the current exhibition, RNLI: 200 Years of Saving Lives at Sea. RNLI themed dressing up, board games, creative play and photo opportunities with ‘Stormy Sam’ help bring this exhibition alive for all ages, as the remarkable bravery of lifeboat crews over two centuries is captured and honoured.

Truro Cathedral 

This half term, visit Truro Cathedral to experience its stunning Gothic Revival architecture and breathtaking stained-glass windows. Wander through its grand nave, take in the peaceful atmosphere, and learn about its history. It’s an inspiring destination for all ages, offering beauty and tranquillity in the heart of Truro.

  • 2024 Cornish Wildlife Photography Exhibition. Back for a second year, the competition featured five categories: Feathered Friends, Ocean Wonders, Micro Marvels, Terrestrial Treasures, and Nature’s Comedy. There was also a ‘Young Photographer’ category for those under 18 years of age. Come and see the diversity of Cornwalls Wildlife – running from Friday 18th October – Wednesday 13th November.
  • Artisan Market – Friday 1st November – Saturday 2nd November.  Over forty fantastically talented artisans showcase their skills with their wonderful products. You will be treated to many different types of work ranging from fused glass to homemade soaps, jewellery to paintings and everything in-between.

National Trust Trelissick 

This half term, explore the National Trust’s Trelissick, a beautiful estate offering panoramic river views, enchanting woodland walks, and vibrant gardens. Perfect for family outings, Trelissick has plenty of open spaces to explore, a lovely gallery, and  café. It’s a great place for nature, relaxation, and adventure combined.

Big Truro Market 

Saturday 26th October on Lemon Quay. With over 60 of the most wonderful local creators & curators of Contemporary Craft & Design, Home & Lifestyle Wares, Vintage & Salvage Finds and Local Food & Drink it’s not to be missed. There is also live music & entertainment to enjoy, usually around lunchtime, and other seasonal content specials, community fun, competitions & workshops.
