Event information:
One of Grieg’s best known and beautiful songs, Våren, (the Spring), begins the concert (soloist Taylor London).
Soloist Stella Pendrous plays Grieg’s wonderful and greatly loved Piano Concerto in A minor in which the composer was influenced by Norwegian folk music.
150 years after its first performance, Truro Choral Society and Truro Philharmonia present the choral version of Grieg’s Incidental music to Ibsen’s Peer Gynt. This is the first time the English translation, by Beryl Foster, has been performed in Cornwall. Hear the choir as trolls in the Hall of the Mountain King! Peer Gynt has stood the test of time because its core themes, the search for the self and the redeeming power of love, continue to intrigue. We have fine local soloists, singers from the Royal Academy of Music, and a Norwegian musician playing the Hardanger Fiddle.
