Autumn has arrived, and Truro is gearing up with fun (& spooky) adventures for children!

Keep reading to see our guide on how to keep the little ones entertained throughout the October half term in Our Great Little City.

 

Mars at Truro Cathedral

13th October – 2nd November

Luke Jerram’s spectacular touring artwork ‘Mars: War and Peace’ is coming to Truro Cathedral this autumn! You can experience Mars daily throughout its stay from Monday 13th October to Sunday 2nd November. You can see Mars in different ways, including:

  • Mars by Day: Visit the cathedral during its usual opening hours for Mars by Day (free entry).
  • Mars by Night: Experience the full atmosphere of Mars as it glows against the beautiful architecture of Truro Cathedral (under 11s go free).
  • Celestial Heights Tours: Ascend the cathedral’s spiral staircase and roof space to view the artwork from a unique elevated perspective.

Mars Trail at Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery

11th October – 2nd November

Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery is celebrating the arrival of Mars at Truro Cathedral with a special half term trail!

Visit the museum between the 11th October – 2nd November and embark on your own Mars mission! Stretching across two galleries at the museum, explore both Mars the planet and Mars the Roman god, and connect the two together.

Once you complete the free trail, you can win a prize! There will also be crafting activities for all ages inspired by the Red Planet.

A Celebration of All Hallows Tide at Trelissick

25th October – 2th November

Cornish legend comes alive this October half term as Dark Cornwall create an immersive journey through the magic and myths of Cornwall along the winding paths of Trelissick garden.

Follow the fae as they lead you through Trelissick, where you’ll discover more about local myths and legend. Step into the footprints of Cornish Giants, search for legendary sea serpent Morgowr and keep an eye out for the elusive Owlman of Mawnan.

Visit Merlin’s grove, an otherworldly corner watched over by a legendary wizard. Merlin will step through the veil and visit Trelissick on Thursday 30th, Friday 31st and Saturday 1st, sharing some well-known and not-so-well-known tales from all over Cornwall. Perfect for the minds and imaginations of all ages! You can also try your hand at wand and mask making, so you can take the magic and myths home.

Gaming and Adventure

  • Enigma Escape Rooms: Can you solve the puzzles and escape in time? There are two exciting experiences to choose from: Fear of the Unknown (ages 12+) and The Bletchley Test (ages 8+). Book now: Enigma Escape Rooms

Plaza Cinema

Catch a movie at the Plaza Cinema this half term. From recent blockbusters to regional premieres and one-off screenings, there is something for every taste at Truro’s fantastic cinema. For more details of what’s on, please check their website.

 

Parks & Play Areas

Between the rain and shine, Truro is home to several lovely parks and play areas, perfect for outdoor fun and imaginative minds. Here are our top picks:

  • Hendra Playing Fields: A great place to play featuring a skate park, playing field, and play equipment, all situated just behind Victoria Gardens.
  • Boscawen Park: Come and explore the fun natural play area with swings, slides, and climbing equipment, as well as sports facilities, tennis courts, and Café in the Park. This is also the perfect place for small children to cycle and scoot. Don’t forget to visit the duck pond opposite Trennick Mill!
  • Victoria Gardens: A hidden gem in the heart of the city, with a beautiful selection of trees, shrubs, and flower beds. Enjoy a cosy coffee and cake at Pollen, situated in the gardens (please note, Pollen may be shut on rainy days – please check their Instagram stories on the day of visiting). The Gardens are open daily from 08.00 ’til dusk. Please note, the gardens may close in bad weather.

 

Bonfire Night

6th November

Truro City Council is bringing back their annual Bonfire and Fireworks Display. This year’s display will take place at a new location, Truro Cattle Market, on Thursday 6th November 2025, to celebrate bonfire night.
