Peer Gynt – A Comedy of terrors

Miracle Theatre bring their magical twist and love of laughter to the classic tale of Peer Gynt.

Performed under open skies across Cornwall and the Southwest, these extraordinary outdoor settings transform this wild, timeless story into a bold and unforgettable theatrical adventure.

Young Peer is a lazy dreamer who wildly misinterprets William Shakespeare’s advice “To thine own self be true” to mean “look after number one.” Chasing pleasure, riches and reputation, Peer blunders his way through life fuelled by bravado, bad decisions and endless excuses. Surely this can only end badly…?

Loosely based on Henrik Ibsen’s epic comic poem, this famous morality tale is perfect material for Miracle’s highly visual style: physical, funny, surreal and deeply human. Expect a riotous journey through a dream-like world of Norse mythology, peopled with cranky characters, trolls and other bizarre creatures. A comedy of terrors.
