Secrets, spies, and a bubble-gum tree that could change everything.
Truro School drama department is proud to produce the second ever production of Jon Welch’s The Bubblegum Tree.
Berlin 1973. A divided Germany. The height of the Cold War. In East Berlin, an ambitious young choreographer plans to mount a ballet production that will amaze the world and prove to the corrupt West that East German culture is thriving and relevant in the successful Communist regime. Rehearsals begin, and a ground-breaking plan for a performance in West Berlin is hatched. But there are forces at work that cannot be ignored – the Stasi secret police are listening in, and in West Berlin, a group of reckless schoolkids are hatching a foolhardy plan that could jeopardise not only the project, but the lives of the dancers involved.
Show Dates: 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd November 2025
Suggested age 11+
Please note that this production includes themes and language that reflect homophobic banter, threats of violence, and misogynistic attitudes. These elements are presented to explore and challenge such behaviours, but some scenes or dialogue may be distressing to some audiences.
