Looking for an exciting and educational activity for your child this summer? Our RLSS Rookie Lifeguard Programme is now available as part of the SBA School Holiday Activity Camp Programme, offering children the opportunity to develop essential water safety, rescue and lifesaving skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Running during the school summer holidays, these intensive 5-day crash courses take place Monday to Friday from 10:00am–11:00am, making them the perfect addition to your child’s holiday experience without taking up the whole day and giving you an hour of free time to spend at your leisure, with childcare covered.

Course Cost: £50 per child for the full 5-day course, 1 hour per day

Dates: Monday 27 – Friday 31 July and Monday 17 – Friday 21 August

This programme is ideal for children who have completed their Learn to Swim journey and are ready to advance their swimming and water safety skills.

What is the RLSS Rookie Lifeguard Programme?

The RLSS UK Rookie Lifeguard Pool Programme enables children to learn valuable water safety skills through fun, engaging and educational pool-based activities.

Participants will develop:

  • Water safety awareness
  • Basic rescue and survival techniques
  • Confidence in deep water
  • Teamwork and communication skills
  • Leadership and responsibility
  • Essential emergency response knowledge

The programme helps children build confidence while learning practical skills that could one day help them respond effectively in an emergency situation.

Course Level

Children will work towards:

Rookie Lifeguard Bronze – Stages 1, 2 and 3

Rookie Lifeguard Pre-Requisites

To ensure all participants can safely and successfully complete the course, every child attending must:

  • Be between 8 and 12 years of age
  • Have completed their Learn to Swim programme
  • Be able to swim 25 metres confidently
  • Be confident in deep water
  • Be able to tread water

Unfortunately, children who have not yet reached this stage of swimming are unlikely to be able to manage the demands of the course.

Why Choose Rookie Lifeguard?

The Rookie Lifeguard Programme is an excellent next step for young swimmers, helping them develop valuable life skills, increase their confidence in and around water, and gain a greater understanding of personal safety and rescue techniques.
