Botanist, Plant Hunter and Curator Explores Abbotsbury’s 265-Year History at the Cornwall Garden Society’s October Lectures

The Cornwall Garden Society’s (CGS) Autumn Lecture Programme will be launched by David Pearce who is a botanist, plant hunter and the thirteenth curator of the famous Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens in Dorset, an immersive paradise that nestles on the edge of the Jurassic Coast.

With over 30 acres, Abbotsbury is a plantsman’s garden, which is home to more than 6,000 species from across the globe.

During his lectures, David will explore the garden’s 265-year history, as well as its design, philosophy and the plants that make it special.

He will also discuss some gardening ‘take-homes’ for every type of garden and every type of gardener, with time for questions at the end.

Abbotsbury: Past, Present and Future will be David’s subject on Tuesday 14th October at 7.30pm at The Alverton, Truro TR1 1ZQ  – immediately following the CGS Annual General Meeting at 7pm – and on Wednesday 15th October at 2.30pm at Penventon Park Hotel, Redruth TR15 1TE, his theme will be My Life in Horticulture.

These lectures are free for CGS members. Non-members are welcome to attend to find out more about the Society and donations are gratefully received.
