The service of Nine Lessons and Carols originated at Truro Cathedral under the first bishop, Edward Benson.
Since then it has been adopted almost universally by every church of every denomination and is a marvellous way to celebrate Christmas as we hear the story of the birth of Christ from the very beginnings of God’s plan of redemption, through the prophecies of the coming Messiah, to the account of the extraordinary events surrounding the birth of Jesus.
There are two Nine Lessons and Carols at Truro Cathedral, both held at 19.00:
- Thursday 23rd December: This service is the first and will be sung by the Girl Chorister with the Lay Vicars and Choral Scholars
- Friday 24th December: The second service, on Christmas Eve. will be sung by the Boy Choristers with the Lay Vicars and Choral Scholars.
This service will be live-streamed on Truro Cathedral's webiste for those who are unable to attend in person and the replay will also be available.
