"Who sees the human face correctly: the photographer, the mirror, or the painter?" Pablo Picasso
Faces are often the first thing we notice about people. They tell us more about a person than any other physical attribute because of their ability to convey social signals, expressions and emotions.
Perhaps that is why, throughout history and across the globe, human faces have fascinated artists.
Using art and objects from the museum’s collections, this exhibition celebrates the depiction of the human face, both real and imagined, and explores the special part our faces play in the way that we react to the world and how the world reacts to us.
