Truro Cathedral will host a service featuring carols of St Ives, which celebrates 100 years of ‘Old Cornwall’ in St Ives and throughout Cornwall.

The carols from St Ives will be led by the Combined Chapels Cornish Carol Choir from St.Ives, led by William Thomas with support from the Red River Singers led by Hilary Coleman.

Throughout Cornwall there is a rich diversity of tradition associated with carolling, or ‘curling’. It is a tradition which is finding new life, nowhere more-so than in St Ives.

The role of discovering, transcribing and preserving the carols of each Cornish community has fallen increasingly to the forty-or-so Old Cornwall Societies. It is 100 years ago that the first Society was formed – in St Ives. At its helm and driving it forward was Robert Norton Nance.

All welcome.
