Philleigh Folk Club Presents An Audience With Jake Or Les

John Watterson’s celebration of the life and work of both Jake & Les is full or warmth, humour and sincerity you might expect from a lifelong fan.  His respect for and appreciation of two of this country’s finest wordsmiths is obvious and the show a fitting tribute to their genius.

Without Jake – Leeds-born Jake Thackray is increasingly recognised as being one of the greatest English songwriters, a unique talent, whose songs are full of poetry, wit, irreverence and humanity.  Greatly missed by all his fans – Jasper Carrott said “I am sure my dear friend Jake would be delighted”, with John’s performance.

Without Les – Before turning his hand to poetry, Mancurrian Les Barker was a chartered Accountant, but soon discovered that his real talent was in writing silly poems.  He would perform at folk clubs and his genius was treasured everywhere, Tom Paxton set some of his poems to music.

John is a talented guitarist and vocalist and has toured with Fairport Convention and recently Jasper Carrott.  John has appeared many times on radio, the Edinburgh Fringe and recently was invited to appear on TV’s ‘Meet the Richardsons’.  He continues to keep these memories alive and introduces more people to Jake & Les’s remarkable talents.
