Here we are just ‘FOLK in Veryan’, still some marvellous evenings here at the Sports Club. Philleigh was a great introduction to bring folk to the village, we open this month with a double header touring from Australia, an engaging folk icon, Bruce Watson and Rob Barratt, a very funny poet and singer from North Cornwall.
We are delighted to have both these artists on the same evening. Bruce is a longtime favourite to the Australian folk scene. His performance are joyful and thoroughly engaging, with witty lyrics and energetic presentation. He is a masterful craftsman of songs, be they evocative and heart wrenching, or side-splittingly funny. Both him and Rob have visited us before and gigged together in Australia. Rob is a Dudley-born comic, poet and singer from North Cornwall, a very clever wordsmith who writes all his own material. A very clever comic poet, using charm and humour as a subtle lever to highlight lifes absurdities.
Bruce is over on a UK tour and has appeared in over 200 folk festivals down under and received many awards, he is the complete package. Rob can often be seen at Bodmin Folk Club, Cornwall Folk Festival and Literature and Art Festival.
