Carclew – A House at War Tours

Carclew House, a once-magnificent Georgian mansion near Falmouth in Cornwall, was built in the 1720s and stood until fire devastated it in 1934. During World War II, the estate served as a crucial U.S. Army camp housing troops preparing for D-Day, including the 557th Quartermaster Railhead Company, which lost 73 men during the tragic Exercise Tiger on April 28, 1944, when German E-Boats attacked in the English Channel.

Though now primarily ruins, Carclew is now in private ownership and will be opening on the following dates:

  • Sunday 18th May 2.00pm
  • Tuesday 20th May 6.30pm
  • Friday 23rd May 2.00pm
  • Saturday 24th May 10.00am
  • Tuesday 27th May 6.30pm
  • Friday 30th May 10.00am
  • Sunday 1st June 2.00pm

Please note the estate is only open on the above dates and all booking /  enquires can be made via their  website

Useful to know:

  • The site is outdoors, so although there will be some shelter, please dress for the weather as appropriate
  • There will be uneven ground in places – please wear suitable outdoor footwear
  • There are no toilet facilities on site
  • Please remember Carclew is a private estate, and there is no general public access. It is also a home, so please respect the privacy of those who live there by refraining from trespassing on private property.
