Walks a little further afield from Truro
PORTLOE – PENDOWER BEACH – VERYAN WALK
9 miles, circular, moderate
START: Portloe Village car park, limited spaces during the summer season.
HIGHLIGHTS: Absolutely stunning scenery, beaches, coastal path with benches to stop for your packed lunch, going through picturesque village of Veryan.
THE WALK: Go through the village and when you see the Union Church on your right look out for a footpath sign to the left which takes you through a narrow path at the back of cottages, over a small bridge and soon leads onto the winding coastal path. It soon enters Broom Parc, with varied pretty flowers and plants scattered all around. Follow the clearly marked path and enjoy scenic views all the way to Carne Beach and later Pendower Beach. As you come to a road cross it and continue on clearly marked footpath through fields outside Veryan or alternatively you leave the footpath and turn right as the walk continues on the narrow country road to Veryan village.
As you pass through the East Gate continue to follow the road through Veryan but take a clearly marked walking path on the right hand side taking you by a pond, children’s playground and further up the village.
Continue on the road until just after the West Gate; there is a footpath sign to the right. Follow the footpath and turn left via Trewartha Hall Farm and back
LUNCH:Â As it is quite a long and challenging walk we recommend a packed lunch as there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the scenery.Â

HOLYWELL AND PENHALE SANDS
8 miles, moderate
START: Holywell Bay National Trust car park (pay and display).
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WALK: Stunning views of the coastline, local beaches, varied wildlife from skylarks singing in the sky to adders sunning themselves, historic ruins of a church, local countryside.
THE WALK:Â As you leave the car park head towards Holywell Beach follow the footpath. It soon divides, take the left fork. Soon the picturesque views will open up on both sides The path is clear and easy to follow towards Penhale Point. The next landmark is Ligger Point. As you follow the path you will notice a varied flora on the ground and plenty of different birds.
On to the beach and half way through Perran Beach turn left past ‘Danger’ notice and walk inland following a fenced off area of Penhale Camp on your right. Then on to Follow the path until you reach the ancient ruins of St Piran’s church in a hollow and an ancient cross. Walk eastwards across a common until you reach a road. Turn left and follow the road to Mount. When the road turns right take a path on your left and turn immediately right and across a common. There is a small stream there and again plenty of wild life.
The path takes you via Ellenglaze holiday park back to the start.
LUNCH: There are plenty of beautiful stops to sit down and enjoy your packed lunch.
